Applications
1. Video Integration (VI)
The main purpose of the VI is to reveal detail in a video signal that would otherwise be obscured in dark areas and /or masked by noise. This effectively extends the dynamic range of any image sensor connected to the VI.
Under certain conditions an entire image, or part of an image, can appear to be just ‘black’ or noise on a monitor when in fact there may be some important detail present in a very weak signal.
The VI uses various automatic processes to detect any coherent detail over a number of video frames and then to optimise the display of that detail.
Typically, this would be useful in:
a) Situations where the ambient light level is below the normal useable range of the video source.
b) Where dark areas in an image obscure detail of interest (shaded areas, viewing through apertures into structures etc.)
The VI achieves enhancement by using information over a number of video frames (integration) in addition to a sophisticated auto range control (gain, black and peak white control). Automatic modes can be set to only apply enhancement when necessary so the VI can remain in-line under all conditions.
Various settings and analysis window positions can be adjusted by the user if required.
The VI has one video input and one processed video output, plus an integrated picture monitor (separate power switch). Local control is via a tactile rotary switch.
Video Integrator (VI)
Key features summary
1 Runs on the HIP platform. Auto sensing multi standard (PAL, NTSC, Secam). Recovers weak or noisy signals. Corrects time base errors and provides a stable output
2 Significantly extends the low level sensitivity (dynamic range) of any video source (e.g. extends the range of cameras used in low light conditions)
3 Reveals detail hidden in dark areas or concealed well below the noise floor
4 Simple to use. Fully automatic modes give good results without user adjustment. Sophisticated auto range
5 Manual modes for difficult or special conditions
6 User can customise key parameter defaults
7 Over 5 hours internal battery life (Lithium AA) with display on, 8 hours with display off.
8 Input – output signal bypass relay for power off / failure
